Lookalike Domains
Visual domain deception through homoglyphs and IDN tricks.
What are Lookalike Domains?
Lookalike domains use visual similarity rather than typos. They look nearly identical to legitimate domains but use different characters.
Homoglyph Attacks
Characters from different alphabets that look similar to ASCII letters:
- Cyrillic а (a), е (e), о (o) look identical to Latin letters
- Greek ο (omicron) looks like o
- rn together looks like m
IDN Attacks
Internationalized Domain Names allow Unicode, enabling entire domains in non-Latin scripts that visually mimic English brands.
Detection
Requires Unicode analysis and visual similarity scoring. Our lookalike monitoring handles this automatically.
